Pure Beauty – Oils From Nature….

June 30, 2016 by Michaela

I love pure plant oils – they can soothe, heal, moisturise, or pamper and when used regularly the result is  glowing skin. Nothing can rival the potent properties of these nutrient dense plant elixirs (a true example of how nature never goes out of style!). There are a multitude to choose from so show your skin some love and invest in one! Check out my guide below to learn the benefits.

Plant oils are known as Base or Carrier Oils and they have many health and beauty benefits. essential-oilsThese oils can be used on their own or mixed with each other.  Add in a few drops of essential oils to increase their potency depending on your skin needs.

Argan Oil: Known as “Liquid gold for the skin” this oil is packed with vitamin E and essential fatty acids making it a superior moisturiser for hair, skin, and nails. BEWARE of synthetic imitations. This oil is currently very much envogue and as a result there are many fake oils on the market. See my Post for more info on the real deal!

imageAvocado Oil: Moisturising skin with avocado oil can give you the same omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants boost that you get when you eat it. I love Antipodes Divine Oil which is a delicious blend of rosehip oil plus avocado oil! It has a green hue thanks to the high Chlorophyll content.

Emma-StoneCoconut Oil: Like Argan oil Coconut oil is very on trend and many of you may be aware that it’s packed with protein, vitamin E, and fatty acids that can be absorbed into the skin easily. It also has antibacterial properties. The oil is solid at room temperature, making it easy for travel. Made popular with so many celebs (such as  Ella Woodward, Emma Stone, Gwneth Paltrow, Miranda Kerr to name but a few) who have extolled its multi -purpose beauty virtues ranging from make up remover, to a hair mask, to a body moisturiser.  Remember to choose organic.

Grape seed Oil: For those with acne-prone skin, grape-seed oil is one of the best picks because of its astringent properties. It naturally contains linoleic acid, which has healing and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s quickly absorbed into the skin (and hair) and delivers antioxidants deep into the cell tissue. Try Caudalies Detox Oil which contains grape seed oil blended with carrot oil, lavender, and sandalwood.

Jojoba oil: Jojoba Oil is naturally similar to human sebum. Therefore those with oily skin and scalp can benefit the most from a moisturiser with jojoba to help regulate the epidermis’s natural production of oil.

Olive Oil: Antioxidant-rich olive oil is the ideal DIY-recipe ingredient for those with dry skin and eczema. This potent liquid is also an excellent choice for ageing skin because of the vitamins A and E. Makes a super effective nail oil too.

Pomegranate oil:
This unique face oil turns back time. Pomegranate Oil  moisturises and nourishes skin, restores proper pH balance, fights damage-causing free radicals and leaves skin super soft and smooth. This oil exhibits substantially more antioxidant activity than comparable quantities of green tea, red wine and other antioxidant rich botanicals. A beauty must have for those concerned-about-ageing skin.

Miranda-kerr-2016_9Rosehip seed oil:  I love to feed my face with this -I truly can’t be without it! It is everyone’s favourite facial oil and there are more than a few famous fans too including Miranda Kerr and Kate Middleton. Try Trilogy’s infamous Rosehip Antioxidant Oil with added lypocene for an extra antioxidant punch!

Sesame Oil: For centuries it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine to counteract high cholesterol and viruses. This should be your go-to base oil to remedy skin irritations including sunburn. It also protects the skin from the effects of chlorine in swimming pool water. Loaded with Vitamin E and antioxidants it effectively prevents the appearances of wrinkles and fine lines. Apply to the scalp to eliminate dandruff.

Sweet almond oil: Sweet Almond Oil (made from edible almonds) is an ancient beauty oil. I simply love it! This vitamin rich elixir has multiple beauty uses: cleanser to remove make up and dead skin cells, apply to the face for a more even skin tone, use as a remedy for under eye dark circles and age spots, or use as a body oil like the gorgeous Emma Roberts! It is rich in Vitamin E, monounsaturated fatty acids, proteins, potassium and zinc! Every beauty cabinet should have a bottle!

imageAloe Vera Oil: I know you’ve heard of aloe vera gel and juice, but the plant also comes in Oil form. This thick formula can be used topically to remedy dandruff, eczema, and psoriasis along with other types of skin irritation.

Arnica: If you frequent the gym, a bottle of arnica oil should be in your workout bag. The fragrant oil will help improve circulation and take down swelling, bruising, and pain. It’s a natural relaxant for sore muscles too.

Carrot Seed: The beta-carotene and vitamin A in carrot seed oil help stimulate cell growth and detox the skin. Apply it liberally in summer to protect your skin from environmental damage (UV rays, pollution) as well as to keep moisture in.

Castor Oil: Jamaican black castor oil is celebrated for its hair-growth abilities (including eyebrows and lashes). This specific type has an ash included that gives it a dark brown colour. The oil is very thick and can be used to seal in moisture for coarser hair types.

Evening Primrose: Eczema sufferers will benefit from the moisturising effects of Evening Primrose oil. The fatty acids found naturally in this liquid are proven to help soothe itchy skin and calm inflammation.

essential-oils-for-celluliteCarrier oils blended with essential oils pack a powerful punch! For an effective anti-cellulite remedy blend the following and use daily combined with regular exercise for super toned skin. Try it and see for yourself!
